Resumen
This research the incidence of literary imagination in civic education from the capabilities approach and the theory of moral emotions of Martha Nussbaum arises. The work focuses on the use of literary narratives and life experiences to show how the emotion of shame and empathy as a product of the imagination capacity as factors contributing to civic education manifest. On the methodological horizon qualitative research, through the analysis of narratives, the products of the activities of two teaching units, developed by children in fifth grade rural district schools El Uval and Olarte analyzed, of the town of Usme in Bogotá. As a result the power has literature and therefore the narrative imagination to civic education is evident, as this allows access to the inner world of children and facilitates addressing concepts and situations that are difficult to handle in concrete situations of everyday life of the students. It also can be seen as children build alternatives, inclusive and supportive of life forms with others as they are known, distant or fictional, thus providing empirical support of philosophical proposal Nussbaum about the capabilities as an axis dignifies and allows live life in a more humane way.
