Resumen
The research process, of a qualitative-descriptive type, had as a general objective to recognize the previous ideas for the concept of digestion in humans presented by the fifth grade students (5°) from the María Montessori District Normal School. It was carried out with 32 students and the methodological route consisted of three phases: phase one was of recognition, phase two of identification of previous ideas and phase three of categorization of them; as a data gathering tool a test was implemented composed of open questions, cases and the realization of schemes. The results obtained in the test of identification of previous ideas were grouped into categories, and in general in supra categories according to the level of complexity observed in the group of students.
