Resumen
The construction of identity in young girls and boys in early childhood is influenced by the social imaginaries surrounding fatherhood prevalent in society. These imaginaries refer to the collective representations and beliefs that shape perceptions and expectations regarding the role of fathers in the upbringing and development of their sons and daughters from the early years of life. This qualitative research aimed to identify the existence of various social imaginaries about fatherhood among three students from the San Bernardino community home. These imaginaries influence how parents relate to their children and the expectations placed upon their involvement in caregiving, education, and the formation of children's identity. Based on the findings, it is evident that the construction of children's identity is nourished by these social imaginaries, as they significantly impact how fatherhood is conceptualized and experienced. However, it is also crucial to challenge and transform these social imaginaries to promote a more equitable and participatory form of fatherhood. Deconstructing gender stereotypes and promoting new models of fatherhood based on shared responsibility and active paternal involvement can contribute to a more diverseand enriching construction of identity for young girls and boys in early childhood.
