Resumen
This project emerges from the concern about how literature texts and education in general have lost importance on the lives of students, as well as the lack of awareness about the social context in which students live.
In that way, artistic means and in this case, audiovisual processes (films) appear as a strategy and a tool aim at helping students to develop certain aspects, such as a high degree of critical analysis, interpretation and comprehension of the conflicts of the twentieth century. Therefore, this study attempts to illustrate the use of films as a pedagogical and didactic tool for teaching social sciences, by providing some elements from the practice and research that contribute to the discussion about the use of films in teaching social sciences; likewise, this research mainly aims at fostering the use of arts by part of teachers and students for the study of society. Thus, the purpose of this project is to work on a general frame, whose purposefulness is to generate historic awareness on students of two schools through the teaching of world conflicts during the twentieth century through films in the classroom. In order to achieve these objectives, we approached the research problem from three categories, which are: the teaching of social sciences, films and the historic subject; furthermore, the researchers developed the categories from different elements that show qualitative and quantitative evidence. Accordingly, these elements were applied to a specific population of ninth grade students with one, two and three socio-economic strata from the IED San Isidro School and IED Gustavo Restrepo School in the San Cristobal and Rafael Uribe districts in Bogota. Finally, the result of this project will be evidenced not only in the conclusions and reflections that the document proposes, but also in the making of “films” that deal with different everyday hassles that students have, as well as different historic elements developed with them throughout the development of this research and that will be created by themselves.
