Resumen
The worrying increase in deforestation associated with the lack of innovation in the use of non-timber forest products, encourages the implementation of a new prototype of extraction of essential oils that has been highlighted worldwide known as "microwave-assisted hydro-distillation". In the present work we show a technical feasibility analysis between the conventional extraction method and the prototype of the new oil extraction method mentioned above, comparing the output flows in a unit expressed as the yield in milliliters per kilogram of sample in one minute , for three species of the MIRTACEAE family. Among the main results, it was possible to validate the new methodology from the technical point of view since it presented a significant difference of 99.9% compared to the traditional method, demonstrating by means of a multiple comparison test that the output flow increases, simultaneously that times are reduced as well as energy costs. It also allowed to determine that the new method can generate better qualities and additionally it is evident how the concept of leaf harvesting can help generate additional income in a forest plantation.
