Resumen
The Rom or Gypsy people are an ethnic group that has inhabited Colombia for more than 300 years. Although their origin has long been a mystery, the first Rom to arrive in Europe seemed to have a memory of their Indian roots. They are characterized by being a patrilineal society and their language is Romani. Their form of organization is based on the Kumpani, which are groups of families that decide to live together in the same space. These Kumpani are found in various departments and Colombian cities, the people value freedom in all aspects of their lives, including employment, where they do not have employers or pre-established schedules. They stand out in economic activities such as copper crafts, manufacturing of steel products, trade in saddlery and leather products, heavy mechanics, purchase and sale of vehicles, sale of animals (equines) and informal sale of various products; furthermore, some women practice palmistry.
However, these economic activities do not provide enough profit margin for the savings and economic growth of Roma families, and limited access to education hinders their social development and the use of digital technologies. The lack of knowledge about electronic commerce models prevents them from expanding in the market and maintaining their businesses in the long term, to improve their competitiveness and access new markets, a specific electronic commerce adoption model is proposed for the productive units of the town. This model is based on characterizing the productive units and evaluating their digital skills to identify the necessary technological skills for the adoption of electronic commerce. Then, electronic commerce adoption models used by other communities were reviewed and a roadmap for the successful implementation of electronic commerce in the Kumpani Roma people of Bogotá is proposed. The model for the adoption of electronic commerce in the Rom gypsy people includes a prior evaluation of the management of digital tools and basic aspects of electronic commerce to identify training needs. Likewise, the importance of having a leader to guide the units throughout the process of adopting electronic commerce is highlighted.
