Resumen
DESCRIPTION The present project contains a research and application process on an aquaponics production system of (aquaculture with hydroponics) at low cost, which is an optimal alternative to the food crisis presented in urban contexts as still happens in the periphery of some cities or rural sites, whether due to economic, social, climatic or geographical conditions. The assembly of the small-scale pilot aquaponics system in an urban area of the city of Bogotá D.C., is carried out by the premise of resources reduction of resources and costs, so anyone can implement it by their own means, mainly the most vulnerable people. The viability of the aquaponics pilot system is evaluated in base to the criteria of functionality, health, and food safety, determined from the collection and analysis of samples on the parameters that influence the quality of air and water related to parts involved in the system (fish, plants and nitrifying bacteria). As a final product, the relevant information on the aquaponics pilot system in urban areas is collected and shared with a vulnerable community in the located of Ciudad Bolívar, on southerm of the city. Finally, with the documentation of experiences, the authors' conclusions and recommendations on the costs, assembly, operation and impacts of implementing an aquaponics system are presented, so that interested persons access this information together with the available bibliography in libraries or internet and are encouraged to implement this viable, functional, sustainable and real food alternative at low cost at different scales, whether individual, with their families or communities.
