Propuesta de manejo de semillas de especies forestales (nativas y promisorias) asociadas a sistemas de agricultura urbana y periurbana en Bogotá

This internship aimed to formulate a proposal for managing seeds of native and promising forest species for their integration into urban and peri-urban agriculture systems in Bogotá. The study was conducted in seven localities of the city: Teusaquillo, Puente Aranda, Antonio Nariño, Rafael Uribe Uribe, Chapinero, San Cristóbal, and Ciudad Bolívar, through surveys applied to 38 urban gardens.The survey design included variables such as currently cultivated species, size and characteristics of the gardens, interests and needs of urban farmers regarding new species, presence and management of forest species, origin and methods of seed acquisition, and uses of cultivated species (consumption, commercialization, exchange, among others). The analysis of this information allowed for the identification of species with potential to be promoted in urban agriculture systems, prioritizing those with productive value and commercial potential. Based on these results, a technical guide was developed on native and promising forest species with potential for urban and peri-urban agriculture. This catalog includes detailed taxonomic information (scientific name, common name, family, synonyms), global and local geographic distribution, morphology, traditional uses, and cultural significance. Additionally, specific seed management protocols were developed for each species, covering seed collection and harvesting, cleaning and drying, storage, and finally, pregerminative treatments, which are processes aimed at improving seed germination. The developed proposal seeks to strengthen urban and peri-urban agriculture by diversifying cultivated species and promoting sustainable and productive systems in urban environments. By integrating native forest species into urban agriculture systems, native vegetation is fostered, generating multiple ecological and socio-economic benefits in urban settings, contributing to food security, climate change mitigation, and ecological restoration
