Resumen
Previously, Educational Institutions dedicated to musical training were clearly elitist, teaching only certain types of music. Nowadays, things have changed because, although some of these structures are still maintained, popular music has begun to be taken into account a little more as an object of formal study. This is where Alirio Díaz comes into the picture, as he is one of the most important figures of academic Latin American guitar. The work of this guitar genius is not only remarkable for his great mastery of the instrument but also for his peasant and precarious origins. Alirio Díaz took the Venezuelan guitar to spaces never before dreamed of, in different concert halls around the world. The way this man manages to enclose the typical instruments of Venezuelan music in six strings is "magical". His arrangements of popular songs are enriched by all his academic knowledge. For this reason, important guitarists record and perform his music. It is all these details that make Maestro Díaz a character worthy of analysis. With great simplicity, Alirio Díaz knew how to combine popular flavor with great academic works. His studies in Europe, first in Spain where he was a disciple of Regino Sainz de la Maza and then under the guidance of Maestro Andrés Segovia, and the fact of living in the full effervescence of 20th century European thought - he counted Rafael Alberti, Pablo Casals, Andrés Segovia, Andres Breton, among others, among his friends - gave him an uncommon clarity and lucidity, factors that led him down the path of disseminating his musical roots.
