Resumen
This research arose from the pedagogical need to involve natural sciences, specifically, the teaching of chemistry in a context such as public basic education in Bogotá. This document accounts for the importance of taking the teaching of chemistry outside the walls of laboratories and classrooms, given that this science has been seen as a subject that consists of experimenting with chemical elements that generate reactions, without understanding how these reactions have an impact on the social, political and economic context. Chemistry represents all the processes that occur both inside and outside our bodies: chemistry is part of us and we embody it every day. Likewise, it allowed us to understand how wars, shortages, economic speculation and international political conflicts of interest affect everyday situations such as health, public transportation, security and food sovereignty in regions such as Latin America and countries such as Colombia, where one of the main economic activities is agriculture. For these reasons, it is essential to continue developing interdisciplinary research that allows the involvement of natural sciences with social sciences in order to understand first-hand those situations that, although they seem far away, such as the exploitation of hydrocarbons, affect each and every citizen, even from the moment of conception to death. Thus, the proposal aimed to develop the teaching unit through reflective processes, discussions, workshops and exercises that led to institutional activities such as the week of the environment, where 11th grade students participated enthusiastically through exhibitions and other actions that allowed them to create a political-environmental awareness in these critical times in a world convulsed by wars and the overexploitation of natural resources. In this sense, I strongly believe that knowledge and healthy practices will improve the conditions of life itself and the environment.
