Resumen
In Colombia, for the design of flexible pavements, the AASHTO method (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, 1993) is generally used. For the application of this method, certain design variables are necessary that determine the thickness of the asphalt layer since it is a model from another country, when modifying these values, uncertainty is generated that results in multiple thicknesses of the asphalt layer due to said modifications. The objective of this document is to make different variations in the structural variables from the technical and economic point of view, in which the influence that these design variables have on the dimensioning of the asphalt layer will be considered, in flexible pavement structures for roads with high vehicular flow through the AASHTO method (1993) with an average temperature of 10°C and 15°C. Different or diverse simulations were carried out changing the values of the design variables, in order to evaluate the influence (the impact) that each one of them has on the pavement dimension, in this way it will be possible to determine what the variables are. with the highest impact on the thickness of the asphalt layer and what its economic increase would be, in this way a better interpretation can be made known in the structural design of the asphalt pavement in Colombia.
