Abstract

The demand and interest in the alloys leads to permanent improvement and optimization techniques metallographic characterization, because this allows for a quality control in materials and is a great tool for new metallurgical investigations. Metallography color allows identification and quantification, by the color contrast, several phases and constituents present in the microstructure of a wide variety of alloys. It is a technique that has been employed for several years in order to facilitate achieving recognition microstructural extract more information from it. During the development of this project takes aim metallographic study color for stainless steels 316, 420 and 430 in a detailed and comparative manner with traditional processes (based on image processing to gray levels where chromatic reflectivity is lost) because a technique is little used or addressed in the study of materials.
