Resumen
The Colombian Pacific is a biodiverse region, not only for its biological richness, which sparks the interest of the scientific community, but also for its invaluable cultural heritage. This constitutes a fundamental component of the identity of the communities that protect, safeguard, and establish a constant dialogue with nature and the territory. Their traditional practices and knowledge reflect resource management, a deep relationship with ecosystems, and ecological interactions that energize life in mangroves, estuaries, the rainforest, and the sea. This research documented the ecological knowledge of local experts to construct an inventory that establishes a dialogue with scientific knowledge. It is hoped that this tool will contribute to management and conservation plans that include fishermen, piangüeras, and hunters. Fishing, piangüeo, and hunting activities were monitored for three months, adapting specific approaches to each practice. 80 species were identified for fishing, with 14 key species based on cultural consensus. In piangua harvesting, 34 species were recorded, and in hunting 19 species. In addition to 38 species of timber trees used as bait, and 66 species not directly related to the activity but part of the ecosystems and landscapes explored in each of the practices, for a total of 235 species. Documenting the practices and local ecological knowledge of hunting for local consumption represents a unique contribution. These findings highlight the importance of traditional knowledge in biodiversity conservation.
