Resumen
The implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies in the construction industry in Colombia for the estimation of construction quantities and construction budgets in consulting companies has been incipient, due to the wide use of traditional methodology, which consists of 2D CAD drawings made in commercial software such as AUTOCAD and that have served as a tool for industry professionals in the preparation of construction budgets. In this sense, budgets and the respective quantities have been subject to multiple errors; in part to the lack of communication between the different professionals involved in the preparation of the final designs, as well as a wrong conception of the construction process and interpretation of plans, which inevitably affects construction quantities and directly affects the the project budget. Therefore; This work aims to establish the functionality and viability in the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology in the creation of a construction budget for a public building that will be put out to bid in order to try to establish an adequate constructive process , a successful analysis of plans and estimation of quantities more realistic through three-dimensional models, which allows to estimate better the construction budget in a building, as well as determine the potential advantages and disadvantages that involved in the implementation of these methods with respect to the traditional methodology.
