Resumen
The research work presented here aims to evaluate the Steenmans and Pinborg´s method proposed by the Technical Guide for the Formulation of Ordination and Management of Hydrographic Basins Plans (POMCA), the method is used to determine the fragmentation of natural coverage in drainage basins in Colombia. To determine the reliability and evidence of the difficulties that arise, a diagnosis is made to relate the theoretical and application basis to the results given by this method, seeking to explain its behavior; on the other hand, an alternative method is selected and developed, the landscape division index, that describes in a more accurately way the reality of the fragmentation process in the studied areas, to be able to provide a comparative analysis which shows in a contrasting way that the Steenmans and Pinborg´s method is not reliable at all for the analyzes that the POMCA seeks to perform, due to the differences in the territorial reality of the natural coverage described by the alternative method are quite significant.
