Resumen
Rural territories are transformed and evolve based on the wishes and needs of the inhabitants. Needs and desires are linked to various patterns of interaction, which connect with the use of natural assets in the environment. This particularity makes sustainability a differential property for each territory. Therefore, this research had the purpose of evaluating the sustainability of the Sombrerillo sub-basin, municipality of Morales (Cauca); territory occupied by peasant communities since 1918, which over the years have institutionalized various practices and relationships in livelihoods. The methodology presented a correlational and explanatory approach, which was developed in three stages: bibliometric review of global publications of the last ten years, design and programming of the modeling system in Vensim PLE that was adjusted for the time scale from 1918 to 2050 and finally, evaluation of rural sustainability. In this last stage, it used the results of the first two for the evaluation of the sustainability condition, in this case, it incorporated 8 ecosystem services, which represented the categories of provision, regulation and culture. As a result, a decrease was observed in the surplus in the supply of ecosystem services such as firewood, biodiversity for human consumption, carbon sequestration, biodiversity for health and other uses, traditional local knowledge, soil and water conservation; due to increased demand and changing patterns of interaction. However, services such as shade remained stable, with a tendency to increase, something similar happened with the contribution of organic matter. This situation gave the Sombrerillo sub-basin a rating of unsustainable.
