Resumen
The present research aims to identify the factors that favor or impede the sports process of Paralympic wheelchair athletes from the city of Bogota on their way to high performance in sports. To this end, we begin with a historical description of what Paralympic sport is for society and for the people with disabilities, specifically for athletes who use wheelchairs in their daily lives or for their sports practices, all this at international, national and local levels, thus identifying the most relevant aspects that influence the sporting process of wheelchair athletes. Based on the above, data collection instruments such as interviews, surveys and complementary interviews are developed for athletes in the city of Bogota. The data obtained are analyzed and interpreted, identifying the situations that Bogota's wheelchair athletes have to go through and, in the same way, comparing the social perception of the practice of sport. Thus, it is found that for athletes there are administrative, sporting, logistic, psychological, social, personal, health, environmental, technological and academic factors that favor and impede their sporting process aimed at high sporting performance. In addition to these factors, the impact that the current health emergency situation caused by the COVID 19 virus has had on the sports process of the Bogota wheelchair athlete can be evidenced.
