Resumen
Studies on the role and importance that Simón Bolívar had for the historical development of
our country are very broad until in the official history a whole myth has developed in relation to
the exploits of the Liberator, however, it should be noted that Bolívar's last trip on the
Magdalena River is still a passage full of uncertainties today, since, one does not have an
accurate knowledge of the situations that El Libertador had to go through before dying.
Therefore, as a way to reassess and rewrite the history of this episode in Bolivar's life, two
Colombian novels are published that make the recount of these facts, to this extent, using
fictional and historical elements you can read in the works another little known face of the
Liberator, the one that shows the world his nakedness, his sorrows, the calamities he suffered and
the doubts he had about the formation of the republic, which he himself had helped to free from
the Spaniards.
In this sense, this research work focuses on performing an interpretation exercise of the novels
The Ash of the Liberator and The General in his labyrinth, in the lines that continue, the reader
can see how literature also becomes an ideal setting for the formation of our political culture,
also from these narrative exercises, a claim by the collective soul is traced, which calls for a
revaluation of the past as a way to preserve the historical memory of the people.
