Resumen
The new WiFi standard launched at the end of 2019, the IEEE 802.11ax, will replace both IEEE 802.11n of 2009 and IEEE 802.11ac of 2013, this is the new amendment of the standards for high-performance WLAN networks, reaching speeds of the order of 10 Gbps, whose main objective is to improve throughput per area in high-density scenarios. In developing this paper, we will examine the expected future next-generation WLAN scenarios that justify the implementation of this new amendment to the IEEE 802.11 family. Subsequently, the new technical characteristics included in the IEEE 802.11ax amendment at the physical layer and MAC level will be described. Finally, the performance of IEEE 802.11 ax will be evaluated with respect to its predecessor IEEE 802.11ac, using simulation tools analyzing some of the functionalities that are required to fully improve the user experience in next-generation WLANs.
