Resumen
The purpose of this investigation is to identify the female playwrights from the 19th century in Colombia. It starts with a brief description of Colombian society, its customs, social hierarchy, and its judgment of womanhood to contextualize the reader. A historical overhaul is then presented, to understand how the role of women has come about throughout history. Mainly in environments where creativity and expression are key such as theater and writing. To accomplish this, accounts of the works and the recognition that women have had worldwide as writers, from the first registered woman to a few contemporary examples, come forth. The accounts focus on the way society welcomed their work and the level of recognition they and their work obtained, while analysis of the socioeconomic factors that enrich their writing is presented. Then focus comes to theater, its features during the 19th in the country, and who were allowed to participate in it. The spotlight is on who were the women playwrights, the socioeconomic factors that allowed them to be playwrights, their activities outside of writing, and overall, the subject matters of their plays.
