Resumen
In this paper, cooperative learning is explored in relation to the teaching of English as a foreign language for the design of a pedagogical intervention, based on this method, which can be applied in a Colombian rural school to contribute to the reduction of educational inequalities in the country. For this purpose, a first conceptual approach, and the state of the art of rural education in Colombia and cooperative learning in the teaching of English as a foreign language are developed. Next, the methodological path considered to achieve the instructional design of the pedagogical proposal that highlights contextualized pedagogical principles for the teaching of a foreign language, innovative characteristics for the development of activities by third and fifth grade students, and the structural organization of the intervention without leaving aside the limitations that a reality such as the pandemic caused by Covid-19 can reconfigure an educational process.
