Resumen
In it, the author offers a deeply introspective and critical account of his experience as a visual arts student. Through an honest and self-reflective narrative, he reveals the frustration, confusion, and contradictions he faced within the academic system. Plata discusses the disconnect between student expectations and institutional structures, the lack of meaningful guidance in creative processes, and his gradual disillusionment with art education. Personal anecdotes, dreams, and symbolic performances are used to convey the emotional and intellectual complexity of his journey.
As a response to this conflict, Plata develops a narrative performance in comic strip form titled "This is really happening?", which functions as both critique and parody of academic life. The main character, a fictionalized version of the author, attempts to submit a thesis project through a poetic, absurd, and provocative act that embodies his accumulated frustration. This project becomes a metaphor for the artistic learning process and an alternative proposal to the academic model, where art emerges from lived experience, error, irreverence, and introspection. The work, at once testimony and artwork, is a reflection on the limits of art and the contradictions of contemporary art education.
