During the last decades, the Francisco José de Caldas District University has positioned itself as the public university for Bogota residents. Since its creation as a Municipal School in 1948, it has witnessed the transformations that the city and the country have undergone, and it has not been immune to them. As an institution, it is the product of training, research and extension projects of a curricular, pedagogical, didactic and scientific nature, as well as constant debates among students, teachers, administrators, graduates and prominent leaders of Bogotá, who have reflected on Public Education. , Higher Education and on the role of the District University in addressing city and regional problems. This book by Professor Carlos Arturo Reina aims to make known, from history, what the process of construction and consolidation of the Universidad Distrital Francisco José de Caldas has been, taking as a reference the period between 1948 and 1979, and emphasizing the role that the Faculty of Engineering had in the future of the institution during these years. A historical period of political and social upheavals at the national level, which undoubtedly marked the internal transformations of the university, which today is consolidated as the Cultural and Scientific Heritage of Bogotá.
