Resumen
The generation of solid waste is perhaps one of the biggest problems and in greater quantity that directly affects the environment and public health. Hospitals are big generators of waste of all kinds, especially dangerous waste, must be sure of the optimal disposition of them (Res 1164 of 2002) and for the wellness of their patients and their staff. The fundamental pillar for the prevention of risks related to hospital waste is its proper management and disposal, from separation at source by medical and paramedical personnel, through each of the stages of management, to its treatment and disposal final (Law 430 of 1998). The Hospital of Misericordia, Homi Foundation is a private institution, dedicated specifically to the diagnostic and treatment of highly complex sickness in children. The hospital, as a provider of health services must have a comprehensive management plan for hospital waste and similar defined, follow the letter of the current legal norm, have trained personnel for the management of the environmental area and its related, have an optimal environmental policy, promote the proper use of natural resources, encourage savings and efficient use of water, vector control, among others.
