Resumen
The program "Voices and Regions" features an interview with Lucy Higuera Farfán, representative of the Diverse Women’s Network and teacher at the Francisco Miranda Educational Institution in Paujil. The discussion focuses on women's leadership in rural education, particularly within indigenous communities, and the role of the teachers' union in advocating for women's rights in education. It addresses the challenges women face in participating in union activities, which are largely dominated by indigenous leadership, and the need to strengthen their representation.
Higuera Farfán also discusses her work in human rights training, indigenous law, and education on peace and culture. The impact of forced displacement on indigenous communities is highlighted, as well as the challenges they face in accessing basic services such as education, healthcare, and transportation. The importance of education in fostering cultural identity and passing down traditional values to indigenous youth is emphasized. Lastly, she criticizes the lack of visibility and government attention to the region and calls for more inclusive policies.
