Resumen
In the exploration and exploitation fields of hydrocarbons in Colombia, flaring and venting constitute the primary methods for disposing of associated gas released into the atmosphere during well operations. Both flaring and venting are associated with greenhouse gas emissions, particularly methane. Currently, these emissions lack control and monitoring measures under Colombian regulations. Due to this, there is a recognized need to update the regulations in the hydrocarbon sector, specifically pertaining to emissions from flaring and venting of associated gas activities. This document pretend to provide inputs to the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, encompassing both, regulatory insights based on international standards and technical aspects that include control systems and technologies. The objective is to modernize the hydrocarbon sector, thereby controlling and reducing emissions resulting from these activities. This, in turn, aims to contribute to air quality, protect public health, and reduce black carbon emissions, aligning with simultaneous goals of quality improvement and climate mitigation.
