Alicia y las 13 puertas

Abstract

This project brings together a series of stories that, through the evocative power of memory, explore the experience of a young girl visiting a family member in La Picota prison in Bogotá, Colombia. Narrated in the third person from a perspective that captures a child’s gaze, these stories seek to connect the reader with Alicia and her experience within a prison environment. The purpose of the project is to give voice to stories like Alicia’s, often relegated to oblivion amidst violent and sensationalized portrayals of prisons. Through an accessible narrative and the use of art as a medium of expression, this work aspires to open a space for reflection on the complex family dynamics within these environments, as well as to shed light on the lack of resources and support for children who visit prisons in Colombia.
