Resumen
The image contains a news article describing the Corpus Christi festivity in 1826, highlighting its origin in Belgium in 1246 and its officialization by Pope Urban IV following miraculous events in Bolsena. Over the years, several Popes and the Council of Trent supported this celebration. In Bogotá, the festivity included fireworks as an act of atonement for the adversities of the previous year. It depicts a procession in Bogotá filled with religious and cultural symbolism. It includes triumphal arches, altars depicting scriptures, military corps, richly dressed children in decorated chariots, and figures of animals, demons, and heretics. It is led by the Bishop of Mérida with the Monstrance, reflecting the people's sacrifice for religion and freedom. This article was published in El Chasqui in 1826.
