Resumen
The image contains news about a letter dated October 30, 1813 and sent from the Government of the Province of Bogotá in the Republic of New Granada, it refers to a case of coin counterfeiting by a French merchant named Victor Dujardin. Dujardin was accused of falsifying the macuquina coins that circulated in the country and had been in charge of manufacturing the corresponding dies in Paris.
Dujardin appeared before the Court of Appeals and argued in his defense that the counterfeit coins had no legal value in the Republic and that he used them to create necklaces with corals, highly valued by the indigenous people, in exchange for gold dust that they exchanged with Europeans. In addition, it is mentioned that the counterfeit coins had a lower silver grade than the Colombian currency and that the currency known as "moriliera" or "caraqueña" had also been counterfeited. News published by the Constitutional newspaper of Cundinamarca, Bogotá (111), November 5, 1843.
