Resumen
In this edition of Voces y Regiones, the role of citizen oversight committees (veedurías ciudadanas) in Colombia is discussed, emphasizing their importance in social control and public management oversight to protect regional interests. The program references Article 270 of the Colombian Constitution and Law 850 of 2003, which regulate and promote citizen participation in monitoring government actions.
Article 270 of the Constitution establishes that citizens have the right to participate in auditing public administration, ensuring transparency and efficiency in government. Meanwhile, Law 850 of 2003 defines citizen oversight committees as democratic mechanisms through which individuals and organizations can supervise state and private entities that manage public resources.
The discussion highlights how citizen participation strengthens democracy by enabling communities to monitor government projects, report irregularities, and ensure the proper use of resources. It emphasizes that voting is not only a right in elections but also a key tool for demanding transparency and accountability in public administration.
Finally, the program underscores the need to foster a culture of social oversight and active participation, encouraging the formation of oversight committees across different regions to safeguard collective interests and promote fair and effective regional development.
