Resumen
This work details the results obtained when conducting a research internship in the biophysics laboratory of the Universidad de los Andes, in the systems biology group, focused on project associated with a turbidostat. Long-term evolution studies present many experimental problems, mainly due to the time that should be invested to obtain data of interest on an evolutionary scale, followed by the difficulty to keep growing crops constantly, as nutrients are limited. In order to solve these experimental environment problems, new tools are designed such as turbidostats, which keep the population in exponential growth phase preventing a stationary phase from being reached. However, it also has certain drawbacks related to the formation of biofilms, for which a germicidal UV lamp is implemented. In order to optimize the device in terms of sterilization and improve its design, a study of mutation and mortality rates by UV radiation is presented.
