Resumen
Participatory budgets are a mechanism through which the community, together with local authorities, decides which projects will receive a portion of public funds. Their main objective is to ensure transparency in resource management and strengthen citizen participation in decision-making regarding the development of their territories.
This process aims to reduce social inequalities and improve quality of life, as prioritized investments address the real needs of the population. In Colombia, participatory budgets have been implemented in various regions, promoting equitable access to infrastructure, education, health, and community programs.
The program also highlights the importance of shared responsibility between citizens and the state, encouraging community organization and social oversight of public resource use. Finally, an interview is conducted with Commune 6 to explore their understanding of and interaction with participatory budgets.
