Abstract

This image contains a news item about the circulation of a pamphlet titled "The Secret of Rome Volume One", whose objective is to denigrate the victories of Jesus Christ, as well as the conduct of Pope Pius IX, the cardinals, bishops and the Catholic clergy. The authors of this pamphlet seek to ridicule and make these religious leaders despicable before the simple and ignorant people, whom they try to deceive. Those in charge of protecting the faith and preventing the spread of these bad ideas have sent a letter. In it, it is ordered that at the first festive mass after receiving the letter, the faithful be informed that no Catholic can read or keep this pamphlet without incurring ecclesiastical penalties. Furthermore, parishioners are urged to hand over any copy of the pamphlet they have acquired, obeying this command as submissive and true children of the Church. They will be warned of imminent danger to their souls if they do not follow this instruction, as the pastor seeks to save them from this risk.
