Resumen
It is difficult to think of a more appropriate way to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Paulo Freire's seminal work, Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1970/1968), than the publication of The Pedagogies of Community through local investigations in the urban context of Bogotá. This volume is a testimony to teachers as creative and transformative intellectuals (Giroux, 1988), capable of creating an interesting and enriching curriculum that embraces and honors the multiple assets and identities present in our local communities. And, given the challenging realities facing teachers and students in the early 21st century, particularly those working and learning in public schools with limited resources and that receive deficient budgets to operate in our urban centers, this volume is more necessary than ever.
