Resumen
This thesis analyzes cosplay as a cultural phenomenon from a theatrical perspective, establishing its roots and connections with traditional performance practices. Drawing on the concepts of theatricality and conviviality developed by Jorge Dubatti, it explores how cosplay transcends the realm of pop culture to emerge as a form of artistic and performative expression. The study identifies key elements shared between theater and cosplay, such as costume design, character creation, and audience interaction, highlighting the convivial and ephemeral nature of both practices. It analyzes how cosplayers embody specific roles, recreating narratives from popular fictions while establishing new dynamics of collective participation at events and conventions. It also discusses the particularities of cosplay as a contemporary phenomenon, where self-representation, playful identity, and the creative appropriation of cultural texts converge. This analysis concludes that cosplay can be interpreted as a form of artistic expression where the experience of the participant and the spectator are intertwined in a collaborative artistic process.
