In the interview with economist Luis Alberto Rodríguez, the formal invitation to Colombia to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) is analyzed. Rodríguez clarifies that the entry is positive news in terms of reputation and requires the adoption of good practices in public, environmental and transparency policies. However, it emphasizes that the immediate economic impact is null and that it will not change realities such as labor informality or structural inequality overnight, where the Colombian State historically fails in the redistribution of resources compared to the other members. To formalize its entry, Colombia had to adjust rules on intellectual property, scrap metal and the corporate governance of mixed companies, and will now require approval from Congress. The expert clarifies that the country enters with a GDP per capita lower than that of partners such as Chile or Mexico, which is why it will initially occupy the last places in the table in education and health. It concludes that real benefits will only be perceived in the medium and long term if the recommendations are rigorously followed.
