The image contains news about a note sent by José María Plata to the governor, reporting on an attack that occurred during the afternoon, more than two thousand men gathered in the Neves neighborhood and headed towards the Cavalry Barracks, shouting slogans of death and murder against the cachacos and golgotas. They also headed to the city center with the same shouts. On the way, they met a group of young cachacos and confronted them, José María intervened to avoid a fight and asked them to leave to avoid further confrontations, however, when they were already leaving, they were attacked with stones and shots, José María was very scared, but then he was relieved to see the cavalry squadron leaving, although surprisingly they did not come out to help calm the situation, but to continue it, since they were not under any authority. Faced with this situation, José María approached Chief Melo, who spoke to him in a rude and disrespectful manner, but Melo ordered the soldiers to clear the place and José María asked the governor to proceed to arrest those responsible for the situation given this situation. riot to be tried and arrested.
