Resumen
In this edition of Voces y Regiones, the role of Community Action Boards (JAC) in local development and the construction of social fabric in Colombia was discussed. The program explained what JACs are and their importance in promoting community development, coexistence, and peace. It also highlighted the historical evolution of these organizations, from their emergence in 1958 with the purpose of fostering development in communities lacking basic infrastructure, to their growth today with more than 55,000 boards across the country.
Additionally, the role of the Ministry of the Interior in promoting citizen participation and community action through Law 743 of 2002 and Law 2350 of 2003 was emphasized. These laws strengthen these organizations with training programs and support for productive projects. The importance of social and political leaders in structuring the boards and their impact on local development and social harmony was also mentioned.
In the case of Tolima, concrete examples of productive initiatives led by Community Action Boards in municipalities such as Alvarado were presented. The work of the Directorate for Citizen Participation and Community Action of the Ministry of the Interior in training and strengthening these community organizations was also highlighted.
