Abstract

In this edition of "Tripulantes," participants Laura, Juan Diego, Daniel, Mario, Nicolás, and Ana María invite listeners on a "literary journey" to Macondo, the fictional town created by Gabriel García Márquez in his work "One Hundred Years of Solitude." The program is broadcast from the Bogotá International Book Fair, commemorating the one-year anniversary of Gabriel García Márquez's death. Throughout this edition, participants share their first impressions and knowledge of "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and Gabriel García Márquez, many of them recognizing the importance of the work even though they haven't read it. They also express their love for the Book Fair, highlighting the atmosphere, the variety of books, and the opportunity to meet great writers. The program simulates a trip to Macondo, explaining how to "enter" the book and meet characters like José Arcadio Buendía (hosted by Samuel Salazar from Medellín) and his story, including the plagues of insomnia and forgetfulness, and the arrival of Melquíades. They explore Colonel Aureliano Buendía's alchemy laboratory and goldfish factory, and discuss the arrival of the train and the banana plantation massacre, followed by the four years of rain. A highlight is the intervention by Federico Díaz Granados, a poet who shares his personal memories of having lunch with Gabriel García Márquez at age 9 and introducing him to his own son years later. Díaz Granados highlights the importance of García Márquez's work in understanding Colombian identity and the power of Macondo as a world where "we all fit in." Finally, the crew members reflect on their "trip" to Macondo, concluding that it was an enriching experience.
