This research focuses its study on the REDD + strategy, and its prospective in Colombia taking into account sustainable forest management, the acronym REDD means "reduction of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation (REDD)." This strategy works by quantifying "avoided deforestation", taking into account emissions reduction credits. The strategy takes into account the sale of credits in an international carbon market. REDD + refers to the financing of actions and projects to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, including actions and projects for "sustainable forest management, forest conservation, including reforestation, and the increase of forest carbon stocks". The purpose of this document is to present a prospective horizon for the REDD + strategy within the framework of Sustainable Forest Management in Colombia, in order to meet this objective, the current conditions of a normative, social, environmental and political nature were established in the implementation of the strategy. REDD + in Colombia, the management and execution of the strategy in Colombia was identified, verifying in turn the current status, and also analyzed the possible horizons of sustainable forest management in Colombia to which the implementation of the REDD + strategy responds.
