Resumen
One of the main public health problems worldwide is related to bacterial resistance to certain antibiotics, generating consequences of mortality and morbidity in the population. About 50% of the population has presented gastric manifestations associated with the presence of Helicobacter pylori (Hp) and more than 80% belongs to the population of developing countries. Recently, and after the search for new therapeutic approaches for the treatment and eradication of Hp, we have opted for the study of natural products, in this way, it has been found that humic acids, extracted from low-ranking Colombian coal, have been historically employed in the control of various diseases and conditions, presenting the ability to inhibit the bacteria mentioned. The objective of this work was to design an experimental methodology for the determination of the mechanism of inhibitory action of humic acids against Helicobacter pylori bacteria through in vitro tests in order to define its use as an alternative treatment of associated gastrointestinal diseases.
