Resumen
This paper presents a methodology for the design and development of a driver prototype for omnidirectional residential LED bulbs with a minimum power of 7 watios and a maximun power of 14 watios. A study of previous works about LED drivers was made, as well as the most relevant concepts for the prototypes construction and the current regulations for this type of bulbs. In addition, a power quality study for LED bulbs on the market was made showing some flaws when they were comparing with the maximum allowable current harmonic distortion with standard IEC 61000-3-2. Four proposals for PFC and diminution of THD were simulated and the one with best results under simulation was buck-boost topology in boundary conduction mode current controlled. The prototype is built by a step of rectification, a DC-DC converter, a control circuit and an EMI filter. It was designed and built according to simulation chapter. The driver achieved a higher power factor (0.9) and a low current harmonic distortion, less than sixteen percent (16%), meeting the objectives set at the beginning of the project.
