Resumen
The image contains news about the painting exhibition organized by the Colombian artist General Alberto Urdaneta, which has been an outstanding social event. Although it was organized quickly, it presents a set of paintings that include true masterpieces, exceeding expectations in Bogotá. The participation of students from the School of Fine Arts directed by Urdaneta, as well as ladies and individuals, has contributed to the event. The works of artists like Vásquez and other foreigners stand out, with the approval of the Archbishop. The enthusiastic reception of the public demonstrates the growth of artistic taste in society. A dissidence between the chronicler Rey and the writer Rafael Pombo regarding the Mexican painter Gutiérrez is mentioned, and the importance of criticism in artistic events is addressed. In addition, a reflection is made on the technique and style of the Mexican painter Gutiérrez, recognizing his positive influence on artistic education in Bogotá. Critics point out that Gutiérrez, although fast and talented, can be rude in his choice of tones and half-lights. The importance of sensitivity in artistic execution is also addressed and compared with other artists such as Doré and Manet. It is highlighted that the exhibition is an important step for the development of the national art industry and it is urged to continue with similar events in the future. News published by the newspaper Papel Périodico Ilustrado, No. 106, December 15, 1886.
