The radio program "Voces y Regiones" dedicated a special broadcast to the Carnival of Blacks and Whites of Pasto, exploring in depth this festivity that transcends local borders and has been consolidated as a cultural heritage of humanity. The main points addressed were: • Origin and meaning: The origins of Carnival were traced, highlighting the fusion of indigenous, African and European traditions that make it up. It was emphasized that this celebration goes beyond a mere party, representing a ritual that connects with the history and identity of the region. • Cultural identity: It was analyzed how Carnival acts as a mirror that reflects the cultural diversity of Nariño. Its musical, dance and theatrical components are authentic expressions of this cultural wealth. • Intangible cultural heritage: The recognition granted by UNESCO to Carnival as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity was highlighted, a milestone that highlights its universal value and the need to preserve it. • Key components and elements: The elements that make up the essence of Carnival were delved into, such as games, music, dance, orality and artistic expression. The importance of each of these components in the construction of carnival identity was highlighted. • Challenges and threats: The challenges facing Carnival today were addressed, such as commercialization, loss of traditions, and the influence of global culture. Strategies to address these challenges and ensure the preservation of the authenticity of the event were discussed. • Safeguarding plan: The special Carnival safeguarding plan was presented, a document that establishes the lines of action to protect and promote this cultural manifestation in the long term. Additional Aspects: • Community participation: The importance of active community participation in the organization and development of the Carnival was emphasized, recognizing that it is a celebration that belongs to everyone. • Role of institutions: The role of government and educational institutions in the promotion and preservation of Carnival was discussed. • Future perspectives: We reflected on the future of Carnival and the need to adapt it to current times without losing its essence.
