Resumen
The internationalist Gabriel Clavijo on the legacy of the former President of the United States, George H. W. Bush (Bush Senior). The conversation addresses various topics, the main ones being his presidency (1989-1993) and his role in international politics. Clavijo highlights Bush's principal legacy as the peaceful negotiation with the Soviet bloc that led to the global transformation post-Cold War, prioritizing international consensus over the warmongering of his predecessor. However, it is discussed that his failure to win re-election was due to shortcomings in domestic policy, specifically the unpopular tax hike to finance the First Gulf War. The 1989 invasion of Panama, justified by the United States' monetary interest in the area, and Bush's relationship with Latin America are also covered, noting that Republican administrations usually offer greater economic stability and military aid in the region. Finally, his public image is analyzed; he was perceived as serious and uncharismatic compared to Bill Clinton, as well as his influence on his son, George W. Bush, who was more inclined toward military action.
