Resumen
This work highlights the capacity that cartographic language has as an instrument for the research and understanding of political phenomena, therefore, the map of terrestrial and maritime borders present in the text Geography of Colombia, prepared by the Geographical Institute Agustín Codazzi (IGAC) in the year 2011 is taken as an object of analysis. For this purpose, this map is addressed methodologically by three variables obtained from the concept of epistemological surveillance developed by Bourdieu (2002) with respect to research in social sciences; the first one, takes as a starting point the construction of the object, adapting a model of analysis associated with the linguistic nature of the image, thereby emphasizing the properties of interpretation that language has in reference to social phenomena. The second, highlights the contextualization that historical cartography allows about political components present in the exercise of power, and the third, permits the foundation and identification of the epistemological position that is assumed on the map, from the discussion that concerns the Political Geography and Geopolitics.
