Resumen
In this edition of Voces y Regiones, the concept of active citizenship is explored through interviews with passersby about their knowledge and perception of the topic. The hosts analyze its importance in democracy and highlight Article 45 of the Colombian Constitution, which recognizes and protects the rights of young people, ensuring their participation in the country's political, social, and economic life. This article emphasizes that the state must promote spaces where young people can actively exercise their citizenship and contribute to societal development.
One key aspect discussed is the role of school elections as a first step in raising awareness among young people about the importance of citizen participation, fostering values such as leadership, responsibility, and informed decision-making. Additionally, the program examines the dynamics of voting in the department of Tolima, including electoral behavior, the factors that motivate citizens to vote, and the issue of vote-buying, a practice that undermines the transparency of the democratic process.
The discussion highlights that active citizenship goes beyond voting; it also involves the right to information, social oversight, and demanding accountability from leaders. In this context, Article 45 is particularly relevant, as it underscores the need to empower young people in decision-making and in defending their rights. Strengthening electoral participation and eliminating corrupt practices require promoting civic education, ensuring transparency in electoral processes, and fostering a collective commitment to building a stronger democracy.
