Abstract

The image contains news about the performance of a national opera composed by José María Ponce from Bogotá, based on the libretto of "The Old Fashioned Mayor" by José María Samper. Although we did not have the opportunity to attend, reports from competent people praised the surprising work of a young composer. Although some details could be criticized, the work also has admirable parts. José María Ponce, belonging to an old Bogotá family, rose from acting prompter of the last lyrical company to composer, a notable achievement. Another notable event was the exam presented by J. Francisco Iñigares to obtain the diploma of professor of jurisprudence at the Colegio de San Bartolomé. His talent and dedication, as well as the interest shown by the studious youth who attended the exam, generate optimism about a possible return to the love of study, lost among young people in recent years.
