Resumen
In this edition of Voces y Regiones, the concept of regional sustainability is discussed, emphasizing a development model that balances economic growth, social inclusion, and environmental protection across Colombia’s regions. Regional sustainability is essential for ensuring community well-being by promoting the responsible use of natural resources and fostering equitable, long-term development.
In the Colombian context, regional sustainability involves three key dimensions:
Environmental: Protecting biodiversity, responsibly managing ecosystems, and promoting renewable energy to mitigate climate change. Economic: Supporting sustainable sectors such as organic agriculture, bioeconomy, and ecotourism, ensuring development without depleting natural resources. Social: Including rural, indigenous, and vulnerable communities in development processes while guaranteeing access to education, healthcare, and essential services. The program also examines the impact of public policies on regional sustainable development, highlighting strategies such as Territorial Planning Plans (POT) and the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The importance of citizen participation is emphasized, ensuring that decisions are made with a balanced environmental, social, and economic approach.
Ultimately, regional sustainability in Colombia is a challenge that requires collaborative efforts between the government, communities, and the private sector to secure a sustainable and equitable future for all regions of the country.
