| dc.description | Through the analysis of the concept of Baroque image this article presents the relationship between art and cultural policies of the early eighteenth century in southwestern Mexico. A picture of the Virgin of Dolores belonging to the chapel of a hacienda of the Valley of Cintalapa in Chiapas is used as case of study. This analysis is the product of a historical research in which the links between the colonial mechanisms of power and the Baroque sculpture in New Spain are approached. The results presented here show the process of institutionalization of the image as a cultural policy that favors the colonizing interests of the viceregal era. In addition, it expands the conclusions of the research as it opens the question about the possible use of the Image as a decolonizing device. | en-US |
| dc.description | Mediante el análisis del concepto de “imagen barroca” este artículo presenta la relación entre arte y políticas culturales de principios del siglo XVIII en la zona suroeste de México. Se usa como caso de estudio una imagen de la Virgen de Dolores perteneciente a la capilla de una hacienda del Valle de Cintalapa en Chiapas. Este análisis es producto de una investigación de corte historiográfica en la que se abordan los vínculos entre los mecanismos de poder coloniales y la escultura barroca en la Nueva España. Los resultados que aquí se exponen permiten evidenciar el proceso de institucionalización de la imagen como una política cultural que favoreció los intereses colonizadores de la época virreinal. Además, amplía las conclusiones de la investigación en tanto abre la pregunta sobre el posible uso de la imagen como dispositivo decolonizador. | es-ES |
